  • SLM in Mental Health, Wednesday 4 November 2009, London
    Monitor, in conjunction with The Audit Commission's Trust Practice, is holding this one-day event in central London. The conference will focus on how SLM can work in mental health trusts and the issues and best practice involved in implementing it.

  • Quality Matters: The role of senior clinicians in delivering sustainable service improvement, Tuesday 9 February 2010, London
    Clinical leadership, on the wards and in the boardroom, is vital to meet the challenge of improving the quality of care in the NHS. This one-day national conference will explore how clinicians can develop and deploy leadership skills to deliver real quality improvements.

Implementing SLM: a trust's experienceArrow

SLM is continually evolving as Monitor works with NHS foundation trusts to explore new ways of applying SLM’s principles. Chris Baxter, Director of Nursing at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, talks about the trust’s experience of using SLM to measure and improve patient satisfaction.

SLM toolkits relaunchArrow

Monitor has updated its SLM toolkits to reflect how the SLM programme has evolved over the past three years.

The new-look materials are more interactive in design and the content is structured to be user-friendly for both first time SLM practitioners or for returning users. The following titles are now available to download on our website:
 

  • How to guide - this guide sets out the processes and structures necessary to implement SLM within a trust setting;
  • Organisational structure - this guide looks at ways in which service-line reporting (SLR) can be used as a motivational tool and to influence;
  • Financial data - this guide helps foundation trusts move towards service line reporting and describes how some of the obstacles to SLR can be overcome;
  • Toolkit for SLR - this guide describes a range of service-line reporting (SLR) tools and shows how they can be used to present data to encourage informed decision making; and
  • Annual planning - this guide shows how SLR data can be incorporated into a trust’s business planning cycle.
